Robert H. Wilson, M.D. Board Certified Orthpaedic Surgoen
Robert H. Wilson, MD is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in the treatment of all problems related to the upper extremity. Dr. Wilson has practiced in the DC Metro area for nearly 30 years. He started as an instructor at Howard University College of Medicine in the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery and was eventually promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure. Presently, Dr. Wilson is a new member of the Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics.
Dr. Wilson began his education at The Johns Hopkins University, where he obtained his undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences. Subsequently, he received his MD degree from Harvard Medical School. His residency training began in General Surgery at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City. He then completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at Howard University Hospital. Dr. Wilson went back to New York and finished his formal training, completing fellowships in hand and microsurgery, as well as shoulder and elbow surgery, at the New York Orthopaedic Hospital at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center.
Dr. Wilson has been an academician at Howard University, but also has participated in private practice as a partner of the prestigious Rankin Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center which was at Providence Hospital until its closing. Also, Dr. Wilson has a special interest in pediatric upper extremity problems. He is a longstanding member of the medical staff at Children’s National Medical Center. Dr. Wilson also has an interest in international orthopaedics. He has participated in multiple medical missions to Africa, and has represented the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery in its International Committee.
Dr. Wilson is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He has additional certification by the ABOS for Hand Surgery. He participates is many professional organizations, both local and national. They include the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Orthopaedic Association, and the National Medical Association, to name a few. Dr. Wilson strives to provide competent, compassionate orthopaedic care to his patients regardless of background, ethnicity, or socioeconomic status.
